Elm is a winter sports resort in the canton of Glarus. This is where famous ski racer Vreni Schneider took her first steps on the snow. And the former champion still lives there today. Other skiing greats, such as the Grünenfelder siblings, are also 100% “made in Elm”.
The ski area is large, with some fairly challenging terrain and fantastic freeride slopes. But Elm is also a great place for families to enjoy the snow. There’s a large area kitted out with magic carpets, especially for beginners. The resort also boasts a fabulously thrilling, purpose-built (4km) sledge run that is reserved exclusively for the sport (no skiers!).
The local ski lift company (Sportbahnen Elm) prides itself on its super-friendly attitude and exemplary customer service, not to mention the lifts and restaurants it operates.
Elm (40km of pistes, all officially approved by the industry association) is a small resort compared to Verbier – it is David to Verbier’s Goliath.
But, as we all know, David’s fate wasn’t so bad.
