After leaving the car park at La Barmasse, follow the snow-covered road in the direction of the Brunet mountain hut. At the first intersection, on your left, take the path that climbs up into the forest. This first climb will undoubtedly have you breaking a sweat as you take in the increasingly beautiful landscapes. Halfway up you will discover a small clearing where you can take a break and enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains, including the impressive Le Pleureur which stands proud at the edge of Bagnes Valley. Cross the forest until you reach the end of this lovely first climb and then head back to the road for a final ascent on a gentler slope which will take you up to the mountain hut. From here you will be able to see a small part of the hut, visible thanks to its flag fluttering in the colours of Bagnes.
After effort comes reward! When you arrive at the hut, the Corthay family will give you a warm welcome and you will have the chance to try out their many traditional dishes as well as their famous apple pie – grandma’s recipe!
Don’t forget to look up so you can contemplate the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding landscapes and appreciate the tranquillity of this location.
To head back down, simply follow the road which will take you to the car park.
