Mont-Chemin overlooks the town of Martigny and the surrounding area. Over the course of a few hours, we’ll make our way through some magnificent landscapes as we discover the unique history that has made the mountain famous since the 7th century, thanks to the great quantities of iron, fluorite, quartz and lead that were discovered and mined on its lofty heights. “Mont-Chemin is one of Valais’s richest and most interesting mineralogical sites...”

The Mont-Chemin mine trail was created in 1997 by the region’s municipalities. There are numerous vestiges of the mining activity left to fire the imagination, for example the slag heaps at the foot of the trees, the abandoned mine entrances, and the rails and mine carts that bear witness to the intensity of the work. We’ll follow these paths as we learn about the lives of our ancestors and the fascinating history of the region.

Equipped with helmets, torches and magnifying glasses, we’ll also make a visit to the Hubacher Mine.
