This was a real working village during the time of the construction of the dam (1947 — 1964). At 1 840m it is the final stop on the route which crosses the Bagnes Valley.

Its Hotel de Mauvoisin is the oldest in the commune and the Mauvoisin Chapel is an old watch ower belonging to the Lords of Quartz of the Val d’Aoste and transformed in the 18th century. With respect to the dam, it should be pointed out that this is the highest arched dam in Europe at 250m and can hold up to of 205 million cubic metres of water.
