Stag watching and listening during mating season

Fauna - flora, Discovery at Verbier Station
  • As autumn starts to change the colours of the mountains, the stags begin their mating season: you can hear them early in the morning, late in the evening, and sometimes throughout the night. This is known as the “roar of the rutting stag”.

  • Sometimes long and powerful, sometimes short and irritated, the stag’s cry attracts females ready to be seduced, but also other males who want to prove themselves and show that they are leader of the herd.

They can be easy to spot at times, but at other times it is only possible to hear them. During this hike, we might also encounter other species preparing for winter. We invite you to come and discover the wildlife of the Alps!

    Professional telescope available.
