Since 2004, the municipality of Val de Bagnes has proudly celebrated its status as the capital of raclette by bringing together the top raclette cheese producers from the region. A tantalising opportunity to indulge yourself!

In 2022, the municipality of Val de Bagnes will also become the Swiss cheese capital in its role as host of the 12th edition of the Swiss Cheese Awards from 22 to 25 September 2022.

This important national event will shine a spotlight on Val de Bagnes throughout Switzerland and abroad. Over four days, Le Châble will turn into the epicentre of the finest Swiss cheeses with more than 20,000 visitors expected to attend.

As usual, visitors will be able to experience the event’s most popular highlights, including heifer fighting from the Foire du Valais on Saturday, followed by concerts in the evening with headliners Paul MacBonvin and MC Roger. From 11am on Sunday, the traditional procession will parade through the streets of Le Châble and Villette, bringing the party atmosphere to the whole village. A number of other activities for young and old alike make the experience even more special with a cheese university and laboratory, an educational trail, family entertainment and concerts, as well as the all-important sampling of raclette cheese and local products!

For the 12th edition of the official Swiss cheese championships, almost 1,000 different cheeses will compete across 32 categories to win the title of the best cheese product in the country – a fascinating opportunity to see the amazing diversity of Swiss cheese. Plus, in addition to traditional cheeses, an increasing number of innovative creations also feature. The jury comprises 160 experts from cheesemaking, hospitality, and the media, as well as consumers. In collaboration with a local organisation committee, the competition is run by FROMARTE, the umbrella association of Swiss artisan cheese producers. This is a cheese festival with diversity at its heart.

The Swiss Cheese Awards prize-giving ceremony will take place on the evening of Friday, 23 September, and is followed by the Night of Swiss Cheesemakers. Booking is required to attend this evening event where you can taste the competition’s various cheeses. The winners of each category will be presented throughout the weekend in a dedicated area of the Espace St-Marc.

A huge cheese market with over 40 vendors will also take place from Friday to Sunday during the event.
