Upper Val de Bagnes
The Upper Val de Bagnesoffers itself to you
What adventures will you choose to have today?
Summer
Go up along the Dranse de Bagnes river and you’ll come across villages with lilting names. Lourtier, Fionnay, Sarreyer and Bonatchiesse, as well as being little corners of paradise, are perfect places where you can forget time and embrace the pleasures of the past. A preserved natural landscape with many protected areas, the Upper Val de Bagnes is home to exceptional flora and numerous animal species. Right at the bottom of the valley, where the road comes to a halt, is the imposing Mauvoisin dam, a testament to the ingenuity and perseverance of those who built it. Beyond that, you’re into the territory of great alpine crossings, high peaks and glaciers. Are you longing for the great outdoors? Head to the FXB Panossière mountain hut via the Corbassière glacier in the Massif des Combins (4,314 metres) with its dizzying 210-metre-long footbridge, suspended 70 metres above the ground. Or set off on one of the many trails in the area on foot or by bike.
WINTER
Dominated by majestic peaks, the Haut Val de Bagnes is a vast region with many protected areas. Adorned in white, this unspoilt natural area offers nature lovers discoveries they may not expect. While marmots may be in their winter quarters, you might come across mountain goats or chamois, out and about in the alpine vastness. Given the harsh conditions at altitude, wild animals are in great need of peace and quiet. Remember to respect the wildlife’s quiet zones and stay on the authorised routes. Ski touring, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and ice climbing are just some of the activities on offer. Looking for a welcoming haven in the heart of the wintry mountains? The Brunet Mountain hut is the perfect destination, whether you’re looking to enjoy a fondue after a ski touring ascent or as a starting point for the region’s trails. However, be careful not to venture into the mountains without prior knowledge, preparation or a professional guide.
