To kick off 2026, the Martigny Vocal Ensemble and the Octodure Symphony Orchestra will perform Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem, a masterful work in which the dramatic power of opera meets the intensity of sacred repertoire.
At the beginning of 2026, for its 20th musical season under the direction of Damien Luy, the Martigny Vocal Ensemble (EVM) will perform Giuseppe Verdi's imposing Requiem. The audience will enjoy highlights such as the famous Dies Irae and its powerful Tuba mirum, magnified by the brass and percussion sections of the Symphonistes d'Octodure, who will accompany the EVM for this project.
The Messa da Requiem was composed in memory of the poet Alessandro Manzoni, champion of Italian unification, who died in 1873. Created exactly one year after the poet's death, the Italian master's only sacred work takes up the traditional liturgical text of the Mass for the Dead, but in the form of a truly dramatic fresco, close to opera in spirit. Following the success of its premiere, three other performances were immediately scheduled at La Scala in Milan. Since then, this Requiem has earned a lasting place in the great works of the sacred repertoire.
Soprano Franziska Heinzen, mezzo-soprano Sonja Leutwyler, tenor Sascha Emanuel Kramer and bass Patrice Berger will lend their powerful voices to this monumental work, carried by the generous acoustics of the church in Le Châble.
