8th edition of the Verbier Talks on the theme: "Social media & democracy.
Between freedom of expression and algorithmic drift."
Social media: a force for good or evil in democracy?
Social media, once hailed as a new democratic space, is now revealing some worrying trends. By prioritizing speed and emotion over reason, it devalues rational debate in favor of confrontation.
Abusive language is becoming commonplace, fueling ever deeper social divisions. At the same time, the uncontrolled spread of fake news undermines trust in the media and institutions, making it difficult to distinguish fact from fiction.

are weakened and exposed to a dangerous loss of legitimacy.
