Sappey Oratory

Historic site and monument, Religious heritage in Bruson
  • The oratory of Le Sappey is a place of prayer that can accommodate about ten people.

  • This oratory was born from the aspirations of one of our holy women. Having saved up during forty years of service at a parish, she wished to gift her savings for the construction of a chapel in her home village. Realising that this would not be possible straight away, shortly before she died she gave her savings to the Prarreyer chapel, which was then being built. But shouldn’t they have tried to give effect to her wishes? We have been able to do this thanks to all of the Sappey...
This oratory was born from the aspirations of one of our holy women. We have been able to do this thanks to all of the Sappey parishioners and the efforts of the members of the construction committee: André Baillifard, President, Aloys Besson and Michel Quennoz, members. If you are able to come and admire this oratory, you owe it to the person who designed it and supervised its construction – architect Gilbert Max from Martigny. We would like to congratulate him for the beauty and originality of his work, but also thank him for taking such care and showing such remarkable loyalty in providing his services. The building was modest, but he took as much care over it as he would have had it been a cathedral.

We also are indebted to the diligence of the local craftsmen who built it in such a short time: Gard and Furletti for the stone-masonry; Ernest Carron for the structural works and roof; Pierre Vaudan for the carpentry and windows; Denis Léga for the painting; Jean Balleys for the metalwork; Guigoz and Filliez for the electricity, and Maison Métral for locksmithing.

We also give our heartfelt thanks to the district authorities who promised us a subsidy, and to the utility services who have so kindly connected us to water and electricity. Finally, thank you to all of you, dear parishioners, for your generous donations and for your constant and sensitive support.
