Located in the heart of the Haut Val de Bagnes Nature Reserve, the Mauvoisin Dam is as impressive for its history as it is for its size.
Built between 1951 and 1958, this immense concrete structure, standing 250 metres tall, remains the tallest arch dam in Europe.
To delve into its history, follow the Dam Trail. The route passes through a former 392-metre-long tunnel before reaching the crest of the dam. Amidst rock, raw concrete and cold light, the trail retraces the major stages of its construction.
Up there, the scenery takes on a whole new scale: Lake Mauvoisin, the waterfalls and the peaks of the Upper Bagnes Valley unfold before your eyes.
Easily accessible by public transportation from Le Châble via TMR line 12.253 toward Mauvoisin.
