Description

Alpine pasture and friendly mountain café in the heart of the larch forest.
Once a simple mountain chalet, Alpage du Tronc is now mainly home to Hérens cows. More than 80 animals spend the summer here, giving visitors the chance to admire an impressive herd in the beautiful setting of this alpine pasture, surrounded by larch trees. Located just 20 minutes by car from Martigny, Saxon or Sembrancher, it offers a complete change of scenery without having to stray too far from the main roads. Sébastien and Virginie Sauthier Virginie and Sébastien have been running the mountain refreshment hut since 2008. Together with their two sons, Pierre and Benjamin, and their daughter Angeline, they have brought a warm, family-style and authentic atmosphere to the place. Tenants of the alpine pasture, renovated in 2024, they are supported by two shepherds and a cheesemaker. Their son Pierre also makes delicious yoghurts. Even though there is no shortage of work, they all keep the same pleasure in meeting and welcoming passing guests with a smile. Food side Croûte au fromage, alpine pasture omelette, Valais platter with cheeses and homemade charcuterie, plain or tomato fondue. Raclette by reservation. Sunday menu available, booking recommended. Our tip In the evening, take a seat at the refreshment hut and watch the Hérens cows return to the stable for the night, bells ringing in a joyful clatter. Don’t miss the colourful mural illustrating life on the alpine pasture.
